Spinal Decompression Therapy

Are you searching for relief from back and/or neck pain? Before you consider surgery, we highly recommend you try Spinal Decompression Therapy.

What is Spinal Decompression Therapy?

Spinal Decompression Therapy is a revolutionary new technology used primarily to treat disc injuries in the neck and in the low back. During the course of treatment, a person’s spine is slowly and gradually stretched, releasing pressure on herniated discs and on sensitive nerves, tissues and ligaments that hold the spine together. As herniated and bulging spinal discs return to their normal shape, pain is reduced and mobility is restored.

Who benefits from Spinal Decompression Therapy?

Candidates for Spinal Decompression include those with:

  • Severe or Chronic Back or Neck Pain
    Spinal Decompression Table

  • Stenosis
  • Herniated or bulging discs
  • Spondylosis
  • Degenerative discs
  • Chronic Headaches
  • Sciatica
  • Pinched Nerves

How does it work?

While an individual relaxes comfortably on the Spinal Decompression table, his/her spine is gently stretched through computer controlled movements. If we’re targeting your lower back, you will be lying comfortably on your back with a set of nicely padded straps snug around your waist and another set around your lower chest. If we’re targeting your neck, you will be lying comfortably on your back with a pair of soft rubber pads behind your neck.

As the table pulls on the spine, it gently separates the vertebrae from each other, creating a vacuum inside the discs. This vacuum begins to suck the bulges or herniations back into the inside of the disc, and off of the nerve root. It happens only microscopically each time, but cumulatively the results are quite dramatic. Simultaneously, the movement stimulates an increase in nutrient-rich fluids and oxygen needed enable the torn and degenerated disc fibers to begin their healing process.

How long does it take?

Every patient is different and has a treatment plan tailored specifically to his or her condition. In general, the total treatment ranges from 4 weeks to 3 months and may include from 15-35 visits, more frequently in the beginning and tapering off as your spine begins to stabilize. Usually you will be in the office for about 30 minutes, though cases which involve both neck and low back, or which require rehab exercises or other therapies, may have you in here for up to an hour. We also have a wonderful massage therapist, so you may choose to schedule an extra 30 minutes or an hour with her on some of your visits.
